Are you Spartan?

I love to run and this past year have really pushed myself to regularly get in the gym to lift heavy things. Being a terrible blogger and a generally disorganized human being, I have yet to post any of my goals for 2014. I have them but they really haven’t gotten any further than swirling around in my head. Besides the obvious running goal of getting faster in every distance I normally race (yes I am super original), I want to try new things and do at least two unassisted pull-ups.

Maybe even climb a rope?

Who am I kidding, the only way I am climbing a rope is if there is a fire below it.

As far as trying new things, I really do want to try an obstacle race. I was excited when the Spartan Race contacted me to talk about an upcoming race, Tampa Special Ops Spartan Sprint.

Tampa Special Ops Spartan Sprint

The race is four miles filled with mud and all kinds of crazy obstacles.

Glad they give out medals and beer at the end. If I have to carry a big rock and get knocked over by some shirtless guy with a stick, someone needs to give me a beer!

They even have a Spartan Workout which is like boot camp on steroids. Would love to try such an intense workout.

Lucky for one of you badasses, the Spartan Race offered me a code for one lucky reader that is a free entry into any 2014 Spartan Race in the continental US in the open heat division. The giveaway will run from January 19, 2014 at 12 AM through January 26, 2014 at 12 AM. The winner will be chosen by and will be contacted by me with the entry code.

Have you done an obstacle race? Does the mud feel as gross as I imagine it to?

Disclosure: Spartan Race did contact me to spread the word about the Tampa Special Ops Spartan Sprint. I have not been compensated in any way and all thoughts about the Spartan Race are my own.

Fall Food

Fall is a great time for savory cooking. When the temperatures start to cool and new produce is in the stores, it makes me want to slow down and savor my food.

Fall Veggies

I love my old copies of Martha Stewart’s Everyday Food because each issue is very focused on cooking with produce that is in season. I pulled out a fall issue and decided to cook Squash, Sage, and Ricotta Cannelloni.  What is more fall than butternut squash?

Sage and Nutmeg

The only changes I made was using whole nutmeg and grating it myself. The flavor is so much better and it really only takes a minute. J also suggested that the cheese mix on top could have been more flavorful. Next time I would try more parmesan mixed in with the ricotta.

I was recently sent a pair of Eeyore Track Pants from OldGlory to try out. They are really cute for the gym or just hanging out in. Winnie the Pooh was my favorite Disney movie as a child, so I have a soft spot for Eeyore. (Please ignore how I look in this picture. Getting J to take a picture of me is like pulling teeth.)
